Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice, to facilitate the expansion of agricultural production in the State.
Tasmanian Irrigation owns and operates 19 irrigation schemes across the state, along with additional inherited infrastructure. Tasmanian Irrigation’s promise to our irrigator customers is to provide reliable and consistent water at the lowest sustainable price while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.
Tasmanian Irrigation oversees development of irrigation schemes, funded through a unique public / private partnership model.
All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Project Director, you will be at the forefront of delivering a transformative irrigation project, ensuring it meets safety, budget, timeline, and quality benchmarks. You will report to the General Manager – Program Development and Delivery and work alongside a dedicated project team and external service providers to manage all phases of project execution—from justification and design to approvals, procurement, and construction.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED
To excel in this role, you will have a proven track record of senior project management experience, preferably in large-scale construction or water infrastructure projects. You will be a strategic thinker with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, capable of guiding teams through complex project lifecycles.
Essential Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience managing large-scale infrastructure projects, ideally within the water management or construction industries.
• Formal qualifications in Project Management with extensive knowledge of contract management practices and techniques.
• Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, landowners, and industry bodies.
• Proven ability to manage and deliver projects within financial constraints.
• Demonstrated success in leading diverse teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
• Strong understanding of procurement models, contract management, and risk-based decision-making.
• Commitment to maintaining a safety-focused culture, ensuring compliance with all workplace health and safety requirements.
• Valid rights to work in Australia.
Desirable Skills:
• Proficiency in Project Management software (e.g. Microsoft Project).
• In-depth knowledge of the irrigation or water delivery industry or broader agribusiness sector.
• Experience in multi-site management.
