Irrigation water auction details announced - 2000 ML of high security water to be offered

Tasmanian Irrigation’s inaugural water auction will be held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, Launceston at 12:00 noon on the 7th of March.

In announcing details of the auction today, John Hewitt of Landmark Harcourts said that this could be the last chance for farmers to gain secure water in their districts. “In excess of 2000 ML will be offered, mostly in areas where this is the last water that will be available for sale by Tasmanian Irrigation”, Mr Hewitt said.

“While water in Tasmania has not traditionally been sold by auction, it is a well-established method of sale on mainland Australia and we expect this will be the first of regular auctions for water in the State.

“The water be offered for sale is in areas that are nearly fully subscribed and by offering this water by auction, farmers and investors will have perhaps one final opportunity to purchase what they need”, Mr Hewitt said.

Water entitlements will be offered by auction in the following irrigation districts:

  • Sassafras Wesley Vale: 40 ML
  • Whitemore: 145 ML
  • Great Forester: 390 ML
  • Greater Meander (Hagley line): 520 ML
  • Kindred North Motton: 460 ML
  • Midlands (winter delivery): 300 ML
  • Upper Ringarooma: 310 ML

Landmark Harcourts is conducting the auction on behalf of Tasmanian Irrigation.
