Shaw Contracting Australia reached a major milestone in building the Dunns Creek Dam on the Upper Ringarooma Irrigation Scheme this week, successfully lifting a 108m long outlet pipe into place. Two Pfeiffer cranes; including the largest crane in Tasmania with a 220 tonne lift capacity and a second crane with 100 tonne capacity, lifted the 900mm diameter, concrete lined, steel pipe into position.

The outlet pipe will deliver water from a floating inlet inside the dam beneath the dam wall to an outlet valve where it connects to the 40km of underground irrigation pipeline being laid through the district by VEC Civil Engineering Pty Ltd.

Construction of the Dunns Creek Dam is scheduled to be completed by June next year and the first water is planned to be delivered in December 2015.
