Get Your Farm WAP Ready for the Irrigation Season
As the new irrigation season approaches, now is the ideal time to review your Farm Water Access Plan (Farm WAP) and ensure everything is in order. These plans are critical for managing water sustainably and meeting regulatory requirements across Tasmanian Irrigation schemes.
Each year, Tasmanian Irrigation conducts Farm WAP audits on around 10 to 15 % of irrigators per scheme who have used more than 5 ML. These audits typically take place over the winter period, so it’s important your Farm WAP is up to date.
We encourage all irrigators to take a few moments to:
- Read through your Farm WAP
- Check your soil and biodiversity action plans
- Review any required monitoring schedules
- Ensure your irrigation is confined to approved Farm WAP areas
- Cross-check your water storage locations
If you identify any issues, such as irrigating outside your approved areas or incorrect information about your storages, please contact us. We’re here to support you and can help resolve any discrepancies before they become a problem.
Keeping your Farm WAP current isn’t just about compliance. It’s about protecting the productivity of your land and the health of the wider environment. A functioning, sustainable farm ecosystem underpins long-term income from agriculture, and following your Farm WAP helps protect this into the future.
