Local leaders tour irrigation project

Northern Midlands Council 2

The Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme welcomed local government leaders recently to see firsthand the significant progress being made on the project.

Northern Midlands Council Mayor Mary Knowles was joined by Councillors Alison Andrews AM, Richard Archer, Dick Adams OAM, and Paul Terrett, to observe key operations and gain valuable insights into the project's broader economic and community benefits.

The delegation experienced the full scope of construction activities, including teams engaged in ground scraping operations to prepare terrain for precision trench digging, followed by pipe welding, placement of infrastructure, and backfilling to restore the landscape.

This visit provided council members with an up-close look at the engineering excellence and methodical approach driving the Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme forward, and reinforced their understanding of how this critical infrastructure will deliver lasting benefits through:

Enhanced Agricultural Productivity – Reliable water access enabling farmers to expand operations and diversify crops

Sustainable Water Management – Advanced engineering solutions optimising water distribution across the region

Economic Growth – New opportunities for agricultural expansion, job creation, and business development throughout the Northern Midlands.

This ground-level engagement between local government and project teams exemplifies the collaborative approach driving the Northern Midlands Irrigation Scheme's success, ensuring maximum benefit for current and future generations.
