Preparing for your Farm WAP audit

Swans on dam

Every year Tasmanian Irrigation undertakes a selection of Farm WAP audits on our irrigation schemes across the state. Audits are randomly selected and involve around 10–15% of irrigators in each scheme who have used more than 5 ML of water.

Make sure you’re prepared for your Farm WAP audit, if selected, by following these tips.

  1. Be aware of the audit process: At the end of each summer irrigation season, Tasmanian Irrigation undertakes audits on schemes across the state. If you’ve been selected, our team will contact you directly.
  2. Understand your requirements: Take time to revisit your Farm WAP, including any associated soil or biodiversity action plans. Being familiar with your obligations (such as monitoring) can make the process much smoother.
  3. Prepare your documentation: Audits include a site inspection, discussion with the landholder, and document review.
  4. Resolve any discrepancies early: Now is a good time to confirm your irrigation activities align with your approved plan. Hint: look for any irrigation outside the authorised area (check the ‘Farm WAP’ area on your maps) or colour miscoding in your dam storage information. If you notice anything unusual, contact the Farm WAP Team to resolve it before audit season.

Please note: Farm WAPs are not in place for all schemes and the information on this page relates only to irrigators who have an existing Farm WAP. Over time, Farm WAPs will exist for all irrigators on our schemes.

Deriving an income from the land relies on a healthy and sustainable functioning farm ecosystem. By following the guidelines outlined in your Farm WAP, you're not only ensuring compliance but also safeguarding natural resources for future generations.

Tasmanian Irrigation remains committed to protecting the state's natural resources. By engaging in our Farm WAP program, you're contributing to this important goal and ensuring the sustainability of our agricultural practices for years to come.
